I’m just a girl, trying to sort my life out.
Hey there, I’m Elimy and I share posts about personal growth, leading a more intentional lifestyle, productivity, decluttering, changing your habits, budgeting, organising, planning, and generally living your best life.
I’m not going to pretend that I have this all figured out and I’m living the lifestyle of my dreams (yet). I am still learning, adapting and growing right along with you. We’re in this together.
For a long time, most of my life really, I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. I wasn’t sure which college courses to take and ended up not completing the one I chose. I’d would scroll through job applications and nothing ever jumped out at me. Currently, I run a small business. It was owned by a family member who could no longer do it, so it kind of fell into my lap. I love the flexibility of the hours, which is a must when you have children to be home for. I also love the customers, some of them are now close friends and we swap gifts and cards at birthdays and Christmas. The work is generally easy and I’m good at it, it’s still not what I want to do though.
Turning Things Around
In July 2018, I visited my Grandmother, she was in a care home and in the late stages of dementia. She asked me how work was going, polite as ever even when I don’t think she was certain who I was. I told her that it was going well, but it wasn’t what I wanted to do. Of course, she asked me what that would be, and I couldn’t give her an answer. Then she said,
“Well, what do you enjoy doing?”
“Writing.” I immediately told her, an automatic response I didn’t even have to think about beforehand. Now, I’m not saying I’m good at writing, just that I’ve always enjoyed it.
I’d written many short stories as a child. I started writing a book series in my late teens, but I realised that the topic – werewolves and witches – had been overused to the point that even I was sick of it. So I abandoned my project.
I had thought of starting a blog before, but I wasn’t sure what to write about. I’d never had the guts to take the plunge until we had this conversation.
I must have heard or seen people say that you should do what you enjoy about a hundred times, but it never sank in deeply until my Grandmother said it.
Within a month I had set-up my blog. Admittedly, I still wasn’t sure what my niche was at the time. There were so many things I wanted to write about and I didn’t want to box myself into a single category.
Over time I’ve naturally started writing about the things that matter to me, things I’m trying out to make my life better, the experiences I’m having, and it’s blossomed into a broad “lifestyle blog”.
As I go through the process of designing my life I’ll be taking you along with me. Hoping that you too can find some inspiration to help you design the life you want, that you deserve, that you can achieve.
Feel like you need a kickstart?
Check out my post how to do a SYLO Refresh. It’s a dedicated, mindful weekend (or even a day or a few hours) where you assess your life and the direction you want to take it in. Then implement the first baby steps you need to take to get there.
